An Unforgettable Adventure to Rainbow Mountain

At over 5,000 meters above sea level rises one of the most impressive landscapes of the Peruvian Andes: Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca. Its slopes, painted in shades of red, green, yellow, and turquoise, form a natural spectacle unique in the world, the product of millions of years of geological formation.

Photos can never fully convey the magnitude and beauty of this sacred place, so experiencing it in person is a journey that will mark your trip. With our Rainbow Mountain Tour, you will hike through Andean trails surrounded by majestic landscapes and herds of llamas and alpacas until you reach the summit where this natural treasure is revealed. Without a doubt, it is an essential adventure for those seeking nature, culture, and a challenge in Cusco.

FAQs

The dry season (April to October) is the best. During the rainy season (December to March), there is a risk that the mountain will be covered in snow. Although the snowy landscape is beautiful, it hides the colors.

You will reach 5,200 m.a.s.l. (approx. 17,060 ft). It is vital to acclimate for 2 or 3 days in Cusco before the tour, eat a light dinner the night before, drink plenty of water, and use trekking poles if necessary. Our guides always carry an emergency oxygen tank.

Due to the physical demands and extreme altitude, we do not recommend this tour for children under 7 years old or older adults with heart or respiratory issues. For them, we suggest the Palcoyo option, which is much easier.

It is a challenging level hike due to the extreme altitude. You will hike from 4,600 m up to 5,200 m.a.s.l. Although the trail is not technically dangerous, the lack of oxygen causes fatigue quickly. We recommend spending at least 2 days acclimating in Cusco beforehand.
