Hidden among the towering peaks of southern Cusco lies a natural treasure: the imposing Quelccaya Glacier, considered the largest tropical glacier in the world. This destination invites you to live a magical and unforgettable experience. At 5,600 m (18,373 ft) above sea level, Quelccaya connects you with nature in its purest state.
During this 2-day tour, you will enjoy a trek through unique Andean landscapes, observe vicuñas in their natural habitat, and discover glacial lagoons that reflect the sky like mirrors. A true natural gem that no mountain lover should miss!
We begin our adventure very early, departing from Cusco towards the picturesque village of Pitumarca, where a delicious Andean breakfast with local products awaits us. We continue our journey towards the breathtaking Sibinacocha Lagoon, surrounded by high-plateau landscapes and turquoise reflections that will leave you breathless.
Next, we head to the beautiful Phinaya Valley, a magical corner where we will have lunch with panoramic views of the majestic Quelccaya Glacier. In the afternoon, we will take a hike of approximately one hour to a natural viewpoint to appreciate the vastness of the eternal ice and the contrasts of the Andes.
We end the day with a warm dinner and overnight stay at our campsite, under a sky full of stars and surrounded by the incomparable peace of the mountain range. An authentic and unforgettable experience in the heart of Cusco.
We start the day at 5:30 AM with a nutritious breakfast before beginning our trek towards the glacier. As we advance, the landscape transforms into a natural spectacle of crystal-clear lagoons, streams, snowy peaks, and herds of vicuñas inhabiting this impressive high-Andean zone.
Upon reaching the glacier, we will explore its amazing ice formations and natural caves, where the intense white of the ice mixes with the blue tones of the sky in a simply unforgettable view. This is the highlight of our adventure—a direct connection with the purest nature of the Andes.
After enjoying a well-deserved lunch facing the imposing glacier, we begin our return to Cusco, arriving approximately at 7:00 PM. Thus concludes an unforgettable experience, full of adventure, unique landscapes, and the magic of Quelccaya’s eternal ice.

It is a tropical glacier located in the Vilcanota mountain range. It is a destination of extreme adventure and unmatched scenic beauty.
It is High/Challenging. We reach altitudes above 5,000 m.a.s.l. and the weather is freezing. It requires very good physical condition, prior acclimatization, and proper cold-weather gear.
Yes. Part of the experience includes walking on the glacier's edge. For safety, this is always done with a high-mountain guide and, depending on ice conditions, may require crampons (which we provide). It is a unique opportunity to touch the ice.
It is crucial to go during the Dry Season (May to October). During these months, the sky is clear and the ground is firm. We do not recommend going in the rainy season (December to March) as snowstorms and fog make the route dangerous and visibility zero.
Since this is a remote area, there are no hotels. Accommodation is in high-mountain campsites or local homestays in the Phinaya community. It is a rustic, authentic experience of total connection with nature.
