Yes, it is highly recommended. The city of Arequipa is located at 2,335 m (7,660 ft), but the route to the Colca Canyon crosses the Volcano Viewpoint at 4,910 m (16,109 ft). We suggest spending at least one day in the city to adapt to the altitude before the excursion, staying hydrated and eating lightly.
Sighting the Andean Condor is a natural phenomenon and, although not 100% guaranteed, the probabilities are very high during the dry season (April to November), especially in the mornings at the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint. In the rainy season (January to March), visibility may be lower due to clouds, but the green landscape of the valley is incomparable.
